Feel free to play along and post a link in the comments here.  We'd love to see how you are honoring motherhood this week!  TFL! Jen

  • PP: Prima
  • Cardstock: Bazzill

Debbi T's DDD #18 {SDD Crop Challenge}

I'm a little late posting this. I combined the Color Combo Challenge with one of the SDD NSD crop challenges, which was to pair a really old product with a brand-new product. I paired really old Chatterbox and ScrapMuse papers with brand-new Maya Road office sheers.

Lynn's double dog dare - poem

Morning_mist What a great challenge. My hard drive crashed so I had to go diggin around for the paper copy of NIck's poems. Yes that's right, gi joe has a senstive side. sort of. lol!!! some of them are......well let's just say he picked his career wisely. bwahahaha!!!

i printed the poem on transparency and laid it over the photo of niagara falls which i thought came out totally cool. qk emily, which is one of my favs btw, and flourish....and ooh ooh used paint there as well. Can't not have prima and bling. love it. and here's the poem

A warm gentle mist kisses the soft petals

Of a red rose

As the morning spring sun

Shows its orange and yellow illumination and

Begins to peek out from under the horizon

Another day begins

And our lives grow a little older

Time slips away

And the petals from the rose fall to the ground

Morning came

The day is gone, the night falls

But morning will come again and with it

All her splendid beauty

And her enchanting mists.

DDD 4.28.08 {poem} by Dana

I found this great poem on the internet and love it.  Thanks for the challenge, Debbi, 'cause I don't think I would have used a poem otherwise.

Lighthouse

The journaling under the flaps says:

Cape Blanco Lighthouse

Port Orford, OR

This isolated lighthouse holds at least four Oregon records: it is the oldest continuously operating light, the most westerly, it has the highest focal plane above the sea, (256 feet), and Oregon’s first woman keeper, Mabel E. Bretherton, signed on in March 1903. Cape Blanco juts out one and a half miles into the Pacific Ocean from Oregon's southern coast. At the end of the cape is a large headland with 200-foot cliffs along most of its perimeter. These chalky cliffs prompted early Spanish explorers to name this landmark, which is the most westerly point in Oregon, Cape Blanco or White Cape. On the eve of December 20, 1870, the Fresnel lens was lit for the first time.  The original lens was a first order, fixed, Fresnel lens (non-rotating). The lens probably had drum shaped panels to provide the steady beam of light that was Cape Blanco’s original signal. Light lists were published so mariners could identify the lights and their signals. Sometime after the 1911 Light List was published, Cape Blanco’s signal changed. The new signal provided flashes of light, instead of a steady beam. The change was accomplished by using a clockwork system that lowered a shield around the light source at intervals to provide the flash (possibly the shield revolved around). This change added "winding clockworks" to the keepers' list of duties.

We got to the lighthouse after it closed and the gate on the road to the grounds was shut, so we had to walk a little ways up to the lighthouse.  It was SO WINDY!!!  We also got a little wet and cold because it was pretty misty, too.  It was worth it, though.

Debbi T's DDD #17 - Read a Poem {4.28.08}

Did you know that April 28 is officially "Poetry Reading Day?" (It's also National Hairball Awareness Day, but I didn't think anyone would want to participate in a challenge based on that!) To celebrate this holiday, use a poem on a layout--your own poem or someone else's.

I wrote a haiku for my page:
